Snickers’ Adoption Story
Snickers’ adoption story might be my favorite. She definitely wasn’t planned. I had just adopted Piper about a month before. I saw that Snickers was still on the adoption website. I knew she had been on there for a while, so I contacted my friend (she runs the rescue) and asked her if anyone had shown interest in Snickers. She said no.
Snickers was saved from a breeder. She was already 10 years old at the time. She has a back leg that she can’t use. It was likely injured sometime when she was younger, but never fixed by the breeder because it didn’t impact her having puppies. She was currently pregnant with a pup that would have killed her had the pregnancy continued. She has chronic pancreatitis. She is missing teeth. She is not an “ideal” dog to adopt for most people. She was the perfect dog for me to adopt.
I told my friend that runs the rescue that I would take her. She set up a meet and greet with the foster mom and I went over that same day. When I got there, the foster mom informed me that Snickers takes a while to warm up to people and not to expect her to run up to me or anything. Well, I sat down and Snickers ran right up to me and gave me a look that said, “Hey, I’ve been waiting for you – let’s go home!” So, obviously I brought this sweet baby home.
Snickers is amazing. She goes in her stroller for walks. She loves rolling around in leaves and snuggling her siblings. She is the sweetest old gal. She is very independent and gets around so well. She only needs minimal help from us. She is so lovable and easy to take care of.
Everyone who passed on her due to her age or health conditions, they totally missed out. Snickers is now 15 year old and thriving! I just love her so dang much and so glad I spontaneously adopted her.
