Bentley’s Epilepsy Journey

Four years ago, when Bentley was just a wee little 3 year old baby, he had his first seizure. Honestly, at first we weren’t sure what was happening, but quickly realized it was a seizure. We took him to the animal hospital, but by the time we arrive there, he was fine. They told us to keep an eye out and monitor any more seizures. He didn’t have another one for 4 months. Due to the time between seizures, the vet told us to just keep watching him.

Then in January of 2021 he had a long seizure that he had trouble coming out of. We immediately went to the animal hospital. They kept him overnight because he was still a little out of it and they wanted to monitor him. Overnight he had another seizure. This is when they finally diagnosed him with Epilepsy. He was prescribed Phenobarbital to help keep the seizures at bay. He takes 1/2 a pill twice a day (he’s a tiny little guy, so he doesn’t need much).

Since then, he has only had one break through seizure (a seizure that occurs when on medication) and that was two years ago! It was a scary journey trying to get him diagnosed and watching him have seizures, but I am grateful that we have him on the medication and the seizures are mostly at bay.
