An Unexpected Bond

Y’all know Polly struggles with anxiety. In the past, this has led to some aggression. She has been on medication for many months now and it has been life changing for her. There has been no further aggression towards Elsie.

We were really nervous to bring in a new dog because we weren’t sure how Polly would act. Would she get aggressive? Would she act out? Would she be more anxious? We cautiously brought Betty into our home almost a month ago.

Betty is one year old. We figured she would be a good playmate for Elsie (two years old). Elsie is super laid back, but loves to run around and play. The older dogs (Polly & Bentley) don’t do this as much.

We were shocked when Betty almost immediately formed a bond with Polly instead of Elsie! Elsie doesn’t mind Betty, but we find she gets annoyed with her and will just go lay somewhere else. Polly, on the other hand, is often found sleeping next to Betty. If Betty can’t be on my or my husband’s lap, then she is with Polly.

I also think that Betty really helps alleviate some of Polly’s separation anxiety. I see them together on the cameras often when we are not home.

This bond was very unexpected, but makes me so happy!
