Things We Do To Ease Polly’s Anxiety

This week is Dog Anxiety Awareness Week. Our sweet Polly girl has very bad anxiety. I feel so bad for her whenever she is anxious about something, especially if we are not home to comfort her.

Here are a few things we do to help ease Polly’s anxiety:

  • Anxiety medication. I know that this is not for everyone, and I actually hate giving this to Polly. However, we have discussed it with our vet and sometimes this is our best option. Polly is terrified of storms, fireworks, long car rides, the vet, etc. Sometimes, we just have to do this to ease her stress. Talk to your vet before giving your dog any medication.
  • This de-stress spray from Amazon (affiliate link). I have tried numerous calming sprays and wipes and this one seems to work the best for her.
  • Moving to a place in our home (the basement) where she can’t hear the fireworks, storms, etc. This isn’t always feasible and I know not everyone has this option. But, we are lucky enough to have bedrooms in the basement we can go to if necessary.
  • Bundling Polly up in a blanket and holding her. Offering words of comfort. Generally, just being there for her.
